The communist underground movement suffered another serious setback when government security forces captured a ranking leader of the CPP/NPA in Cagayan de Oro City during the weekend.
Alfredo MAPANO alias Ka Pares, Regional Secretary of the CPP/NPA North Central Mindanao Regional Commitee was arrested by police and military agents at the Middleton Apartelle in Cagayan de Oro City at 2am Saturday.
In a report to PNP Chief, Director General Jesus A Verzosa, PRO-10 Regional Director, CSupt Danilo Empedrad said Mapano was arrested by virtue of five Warrants of Arrest for Murder, Frustrated Murder, Robbery and Damage to Property filed before courts in Agusan del sur, Bukidnon, Cagayan de Oro City and Misamis Oriental.
The CPP/NPA leader carried a P5.6-million reward for his arrest offered by the DILG-DND.
At the time of his arrest, Mapano was with his party wife Chona Lasaca and their two children.
Arresting officers confiscated from Mapano a laptop computer, two cellphones, compact discs and flash discs that are believed to contain CPP/NPA documents of high intelligence value.
Mapano is now detained at the Maharlika Detention Center ofCagayan de Oro City Police Office.
